The computer is a sophisticated piece of equipment that combines hardware and software to do its job. This creates a need for rebooting the computer when things get messed up.
But how do you reboot a laptop? It’s not something that occurs often, but occasionally errors do occur and it’s important to know how to reboot the machine when these occur.
The most common cause of a computer crashing is when there is an error in the code that keeps it running. Sometimes this can be easily fixed by just rebooting it, but sometimes you need to take care of other issues first before rebooting will solve your problem.
How to Reboot HP Laptops
Below are three ways you can reboot your laptop:
Method #1: The normal way (Recommended)
This is the conventional and recommended method to restart your HP laptop. It has multiple advantages, the most important being that this method can be used on a HP laptop without any additional software. To restart using this method:
- Make sure all the software’s running are closed and your work is saved.
- Open the start menu at the bottom left of your screen.
- Press the power button and select restart from the list.
Your computer will restart after clicking restart.
Another way to access start menu is by tapping the windows button on your keyboard which will bring up the start menu.
This is the natural and obvious way of restarting your computer. However, some users report that it doesn’t always work, so if you experience issues when using this method, try the second method.
Method #2: CTRL+ALT+DEL
This method is mostly used when there is a program that has frozen. This method doesn’t require much effort and is, in fact, quite simple to use. It doesn’t involve using the windows command line. Here is how you reboot a HP laptop with this method:
1.Press CTRL(Control), ALT(Alternate) and DEL(Delete) at the same time.
2. A dialog with various options will popup. At the left bottom corner press the power button and press on restart from the list.
This reboot method will work most of the time, but if it doesn’t there are still other methods you can try.
Method #3: Command Prompt
This is a more technical way of restarting your computer and is only recommended if you are familiar with using the command prompt. If you aren’t, then we suggest you try one of the other methods. To reboot using this method:
- Open the start menu and type cmd.
- Right-click on cmd.exe and select run as administrator.
- In the command prompt type the following command and press enter:
shutdown /r /t 0
This will immediately restart your computer.
The /t parameter is a time specification on when your laptop should restart in secs. e.g. shutdown /r /t 20 restarts your HP laptop in 20 seconds.
The command prompt can be a little intimidating, but it’s an effective way to reboot your HP laptop when all else fails. All you have to do is follow the steps above and you’ll be up and running in no time.
