Locking a PC keyboard is essential to keep a computer safe from any kind of damage or to keep your files safe from others, especially your curious children and adoring pets! This guide will teach you how to lock a keyboard using methods ranging from simple to innovative.

Windows

1. Use the Keyboard.

By pressing the Windows key and the “L” key at the same time, you can instantly lock your keyboard. This is the most common way to lock your keyboard and is also the default setting. You can get back to work by pressing “Enter” and filling in your password.

2. Lock windows session.

The other method that is widely known is “CTRL+Alt+Delete” you will get a prompt with a variety of options. You could Lock or Sign out to prevent your laptop from being tampered with.

3. Start button.

To lock your computer and save battery life, click the Start button, on the left bottom corner of your screen and press the power button. You will see three options Shutdown, Restart and sleep. Select sleep which will put your laptop in sleep mode. To get back to your work press any key on the keyboard or mouse, and fill in your password.

4. Set screen saver.

Screen Saver Another way to lock your keyboard is to activate your screen saver. This can be done by going to “Control Panel,” clicking on “Appearance and Personalization,” selecting “Screen Saver,” and then clicking on “Screen saver settings.” Under “Screen saver,” select the “On resume, password protect” check box. This will activate your screen saver and lock your keyboard when your computer resumes from sleep mode.

5. Using command prompt

Command prompt can be used to lock the PC keyboard. By going to the “Start” menu, selecting “Run,” and putting “cmd” (without quotes) in the box, you may lock the keyboard. Click “OK” to complete the action. Type “rundll32.exe user32.dll, LockWorkStation” and press “Enter” to complete the process. Nobody other can use the keyboard after it has been locked. However, the PC is still turned on.

MacBook

1. Close the lid

To lock the keyboard on a Mac, you can simply close the lid. This will put the computer to sleep and lock the keyboard.

2. Lock your MacBook

There are also key commands that can be used to lock the keyboard. To do this, press “Control,” “Shift,” and “Power” at the same time, to lock your MacBook.

3. Sleep mode.

Press Command-Option-Power to put your MacBook to sleep. No one will be able to use it until you turn it on. You can also select the sleep action from the Apple menu.
